Everything in the past serves as a prologue. The Chinese equity investment industry officially bids farewell to 2021, ushering in a new journey in 2022.
For the VC/PE industry, the just-passed 2021 was a year bathed in the spring breeze.
In 2021, the Chinese mother fund industry finally entered a period of explosive growth. When mother funds are strong, venture capital converges; when venture capital is active, industries thrive. The role of mother funds in leading industrial development has become deeply rooted, with governments across the country increasingly valuing mother funds. Capital attraction has become a trend, leading to a burst of local mother funds. The mother fund industry is moving towards refined development, witnessing the establishment of diversified, specialized, and industrial mother funds. Several sub-sectors, such as semiconductors and healthcare, have seen the establishment of billion-dollar mother funds. The new hot topic of carbon neutrality has also brought tremendous opportunities.
In addition to mother funds, insurance funds serving as limited partners (LP) are fully engaged, participating in the establishment of multiple mother funds and funds. The requirements for insurance funds to invest in venture capital have also been significantly relaxed. The gates of bank wealth management have opened to the equity investment industry. According to our incomplete statistics, bank wealth management subsidiaries have invested over 11 billion yuan as LPs. Listed companies and newly rich entrepreneurs are flocking to become LPs. The VC/PE industry is facing critical development opportunities.
Against this backdrop, the Mother Fund Research Center, based on existing data support and research analysis, officially released the 2021 annual list on January 6, 2022. This aims to encourage outstanding institutions and talents in the private equity mother fund and fund industry, promoting the healthy development of the equity investment industry.
